Obituary of Gwen MacKnight

Gwen MacKnight passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at Bobby’s Hospice surrounded by loved ones. Gwen was born on June 4, 1941 in Digby, NS to the late Louis and Muriel “Minnie” (Cook) Savary. Gwen graduated from Yarmouth Consolidated Memorial High School and went on to attend Yarmouth Vocational School. She left Vocational School to work as a court stenographer for the Nova Scotia Department of Justice. Gwen got to travel throughout the province going to many different trials; she loved that job. In later years she worked as a secretary for several churches, St. Thomas University and eventually became the manager of the Church of England Institute until she retired in 2008. Gwen was a dedicated volunteer; working with the Salvation Army, Westside Food Bank, St. Pat’s Breakfast Program and Maritime Conference of the United Church. She also loved the outdoors; camping, hiking, beaches and animals. Gwen walked Bayshore Beach every day all year round; the outdoors brought her great happiness. Gwen is survived by her children; Stephen MacKnight (Theresa) of St. Andrews, NB, Christopher MacKnight (Lisa) of Halifax, NS, and Andrea Lewis of Saint John, NB, brother Philip Savary (Janet) of Riverview, NB, sister Lorraine Savary of Moncton, NB, two grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Gwen is predeceased by her parents, daughter Elaine MacKnight, brother Lou “Buzz” and his wife Glenda Savary.
