Obituary of Beatrice Winnifred Moore

Beatrice Winnifred (VanWart) Moore passed over to meet her Lord January 9, 2015 at the St. John & St. Stephen Nursing Home. Born in 1923 in Hampstead, NB she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Mary (Perry) VanWart and loving wife of the late Murray Vernon Moore. She worked with Murray at two electrical distribution stores as well as making candles in Canterbury Candles where they manufactured handmade candles and sold them both retail and wholesale throughout the Maritime Provinces. Bea was a “social butterfly” and a wonderful hostess which you would always find very close to Murray’s side for more than 53 years. She had a wonderful sense of humour and a winning smile no matter what the circumstance in her life. Their home in Acamac always had an open door where they welcomed many extended family members over the years. She and Murray loved to travel and together they visited Greece, Hawaii and much of Canada and the U.S. spending their Winters in Florida for over 30 years. Following her husband’s death, she continued to Winter in Florida and spent most summers in Cape Cod with her cousin, Jane. She became known as the “Candy Lady” for many years as she made wonderful chocolates to celebrate every special time of the year. Her great grandchildren still wish they could have some of “Nan B’s” candy. She was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church and took part in the Keenagers Group there for many years. She will be missed by her daughter, Wanda L. (Zeldon E.) Cross and daughter-in-law, Katherine Moore, of Saint John, NB, her sister, Evelyn McLenaghan, of Kingston, ON; grandchildren, Wendy (Mike) Himmelman, Duane (Katie) Moore, Gregory (Kelly) Cross, Dale (Jennifer) Moore and Stacy (Robert) Cross-Bourgeois; 10 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband she was predeceased by her only son, Wayne, who she adored; 4 brothers and 2 sisters. Arrangements are under the care of Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave, Saint John (634-1701). Visitation will be held on Monday January 12, 2015 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. & 7:00-9:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday January 13, 2015 at 2:30 p.m. from Castle Funeral Home Chapel. Interment to take place in the Spring in Hampstead Cemetery. There will be a reception at the Fallsview Family Reception Center, following the service. Donations in memory of Bea may be made to Hillcrest Baptist Church.
