Obituary of Gwendolyn Goss

Goss, Gwendolyn Gwendolyn (Parry) Goss of Saint John, N.B. passed away on March 13, 2016 at the St. John and St. Stephen Nursing Home at the age of 93. Wen was born in Bradford, England. While serving as a British army nurse during World War II Gwen met and married Canadian soldier, Gerard (Barney) A. Goss in the spring of 1945. Gwen joined Barney in Canada following the end of the war. Together they raised six children: Ian (Theresa); Pamela (Brian) Galbraith; Bruce (Kim); Martin; Stephen (Stefani); and Richard (Yanyan) of Hong Kong. Gwen truly enjoyed being a mother, as well as a grandmother to eleven children. Gwen is also survived by her sister, Madeyln (Dennis) Drake and family, of South Wales, UK. Gwen was predeceased by her husband, two sons: Ian and Martin; and Grandson, Gerry. Gwen devoted her younger years to serving her country and then devoted herself to her family. Her place of solace for many years was found at the family camp on the shore of Washademoak Lake. Gwen spent many happy summers days with her children and grandkids planting flowers, reading her paperback under the shade of a tree, playing crib or board games with the children on rainy days, preparing hot dogs for campfires and supplying hugs or band-aids whenever required. The rules may have been relaxed, but when Nanny spoke everyone knew she meant business! Throughout her entire life Gwen would often be seen with a four footed furry friend at her side. Now the time has come for those memories to be shared with emerging generation of Great Grandchildren. Gwen was a long time member of the Ladies Auxillary of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No.2 and a parishioner of St. George’s Anglican Church. Funeral Arrangements are under the care of Castle Funeral Home, 309 Lancaster Ave. Saint John, N.B. (634-1701).Following Gwen’s wishes there will be no visitation. A Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at Castle “Fallsview” Chapel at 1pm with Rev Rob Salloum Officiating.
