Firth Nice

Obituary of Firth Nice

It is with great sadness the family announces the death of Firth Eldon Nice at the Saint John Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit. Firth was the son of the late Albert and Margret Nice. Firth was the loving husband of Doris (Alexander) for 55 years. He was born in Saint John and was a long-standing member of Carleton – Kirk United Church. His greatest loves were his family and working. He worked as a shipliner for the Port of Saint John and was a member of I.L.A. 1039 for many years before his retirement. He and Doris moved to Grand Bay – Westfield 33 years ago to live in their summer home, which Firth winterized. Firth was a loving father to Julie Nice, Jill Laskey (Brian Woodin) and Grandson, Cory Shea. He leaves behind his grandchildren, Chris (Gemma) Shea, Kari Shea (Josh Gallant), Brandon, Tyler, Nathan Laskey and, the apple of his eye, Rachael Woodin. Firth loved to see his 3 great-grandchildren Ethan, Max, and Isobel. Firth is also survived by his brothers, Norman (Maude) and Burton (Gloria) Nice. His brother-in-law, Donald Halsall, sister-in-law, Rose Nice and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Gordon, Orlando, Lebaron and James, sisters, Millicent, Marjorie, Betty and Leah. We would like to thank Dr. Scott, Debbie, Kim, and Joanne for all their wonderful care over these years. Dr. Adeola Adeyeye, Dr. Jenn Hannigan, Dr. Erin Palmer and all the staff at the Palliative Care Unit. Thank you so much for the care and compassion you showed Firth and the family. Resting at Castle “Fallsview” Funeral Home 309 Lancaster Ave. Saint John West (634-1701) with visiting on Thursday January 13, 2 - 4 p.m. and 7 – 9 p.m. The celebration of his life will be held on Friday January 14 at 1 p.m. at Castle Funeral Home with interment to follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
