Obituary of Kathleen Vautour

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Kathleen (nee White (LeBlanc)) Vautour announce her passing on February 17, 2015 at Carleton-Kirk Lodge. “Kay” was born in Saint John on August 6, 1924 to the late Laura (nee Estabrooks) and Albert LeBlanc (White). She was raised during the Great Depression which shaped her life, caused her character to be strong and her heart compassionate. She was employed in her younger years at Simms Brush Factory and later at Moosehead Breweries supporting herself and her mother. She made the conscious choice to leave work and start a family with her husband of 40 years, Edgar. Mum was a “class act” and took great pride in her role as homemaker, wife and mother. She possessed the “gift of the gab” and after a conversation with her, one would come away feeling rejuvenated and believing anything was possible. Kay was deeply religious, a devout Catholic and driven by her faith. She had a keen interest in politics and current affairs, was an avid reader, an intellectual and loved a good debate. She loved to laugh and her laugh was contagious. She was very devoted to her family and loved them unconditionally. Kay and Edgar were founding members of the “30 Up Club” in the west side. Together they worked as a team to bring to life Dad’s vision of “Silver Sands” trailer park (in Cap Pele), a “family campground” where they spent 10 summers. Kay was a very strong-willed woman and during her husband’s lengthy illness, modeled the true meaning of “til death do us part”. She was his sole caregiver for the 6 year duration of his disease. When diagnosed with Alzheimer’s herself, Mum accepted her condition with grace and dignity stating that she’d had a good life, a wonderful husband who treated her very well and was blessed with 3 beautiful children and that she would accept whatever the Good Lord had in store for her. She was “one of a kind” and there was not a person who met her that didn’t instantly like her. She will be forever loved and missed. Kay is survived by her son, Brian (Sherri) and daughter Joanne (Bill Hudson) as well as her grandchildren: Dustin, Nicholas, Evan, Elliot, Zachary, Joshua, MacKenzie, Thomas and Amie; great grandchild Jase; as well as several nieces and nephews. Kay was the last remaining member of her immediate family. In addition to her husband, Edgar, and her parents, Kay was predeceased by her son, Kevin (Cathy), her sister, Dorothy Pougnet, and infant sister, Marion. Arrangements are under the care of Castle Fallsview Funeral Home (634-1701) with visitations on Saturday February 21, 2015 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Sunday February 22, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will take place at Our Lady of the Assumption Church on Monday, February 23, 2015 at 12:00noon. Interment will follow at Cedar Hill-Greenwod Cemetery. Donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Saint John, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Romero House or a charity of the donor’s choice.
