Obituary of Wilfrid Currie Dean

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Wilfrid Currie Dean announce his passing at the Carlton Kirk nursing home on July 22^st, 2023.  

Son of Arthur and Mabel (Currie) Dean, Wilfrid was born in 1931 and he leaves to mourn his wife Betty (Charlton) Dean, son Robert (Susan) Dean and daughter Joanne Hatfield.  Three grandchildren Samantha (Nick Phillips) Dean, Ryan Dean and Tammy (Corey) Hachey of Calgary and his great-grandson Logan Hachey. Predeceased by his brothers Walter (Marie) Dean and David (Bonnie) Dean and his infant brother Robert Dean and nephew Larry Dean.  

Wilfrid was born and raised in the North End of Saint John and raised his family in Martinon after marrying Betty in the 50s. He worked in the automotive industry for nearly 50 years. He enjoyed playing hockey and softball in his younger years and cleared the ice at the old Forum. Wilfrid loved to dance and listen to old time music. He bowled with the “Recycled Teenagers”. Wilfrid threw the best bonfires in the neighborhood every weekend and no one ever knew where he got all the firewood from.  

Wilfrid and Betty met at vocational school and were together ever since. They celebrated their 70^th wedding anniversary on June 13^th, 2023.  

On behalf of Wilfrid, his family would like to express their extreme gratitude to the Carlton Kirk Nursing Home for their love and care and for never failing to keep him entertained during his four year stay.  

Visitation on Wednesday, July 26th from 3pm to 8pm at the Castle Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at Grand-Bay Westfield United Church on Thursday, July 27th at 2pm with a private family interment at a later date.  

Donations in memory of Wilfrid can be made to the Carlton Kirk Nursing Home Recreation Department so that they may continue their wonderful work in creating joy for their residents.
